About Max Fuchs

Max Fuchs is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Anthropology of Economic Experimentation at the Max Planck Institute for Social Anthropology in Halle, Germany. He earned his bachelor’s degree in social anthropology and educational science from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and his master’s degree in gender studies from the University of Gothenburg in Sweden.

For his research, Fuchs has conducted extended fieldwork on LGBTI+ issues in Namibia, complemented by internships at a local LGBTI+ NGO in 2021 and the Gender Research and Advocacy Project of the Legal Assistance Center in Windhoek in 2023. His most recent fieldwork period spanned one year, from May 2025 to May 2026. He is knowledgeable about formal political and legal landscapes, the lived experiences of local LGBTI+ people, activism and legal advocacy, same-sex intimate partner violence, and the NGO sector. Over the years, he has built a wide and diverse network of local stakeholders from NGOs, activist movements, the arts, and academia in different parts of the country.
