Communitology

Communitology provides independent country of origin expertise for immigration and asylum proceedings — grounded in social science, local knowledge, and sustained engagement with the communities and conditions that matter most.

Our Experts

Communitology works with a global network of independent experts — social scientists, linguists, legal specialists, and regional practitioners selected for country knowledge, research experience, and familiarity with legal and adjudicative standards.

All work is carried out independently. Communitology provides training, coordination, quality review, and case management.

Communitology also coordinates with independent local legal professionals based in countries of origin, providing jurisdiction-specific legal analysis and document-related expertise where case questions require it.

What We Do

We prepare expert country of origin reports, assessments, and testimony for immigration, asylum, and related legal proceedings worldwide. Our work explains how country conditions, administrative systems, and patterns of risk operate in practice — at the regional and local level, not just the national level. Each engagement is case-specific, with clear documentation of sources, methods, and limits.

Our Approach

Country conditions are not uniform. Laws, institutions, and risks vary by region, community, and time period — and the gap between formal rules and lived experience is often significant. Our experts focus on how authority, harm, protection, and documentation function in practice, and are explicit about what can and cannot be established, and why.

Who We Work With

We work with attorneys, legal aid organizations, courts and tribunals, and individuals seeking expert country information in proceedings before immigration courts, tribunals, and related legal bodies in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, European Union, and other jurisdictions. Our experts provide independent opinions — contextualizing evidence, assessing plausibility, and documenting evidentiary limits. They do not determine credibility, make legal findings, or advocate for outcomes.

Justice Initiative

The Communitology Justice Initiative offers reduced-fee access to country of origin expertise for select U.S.-based cases involving indigent or vulnerable clients. Participation is subject to eligibility, expert availability, and program capacity.
